Kodiak 2014 - 165kms & 5000m ascent - 1st woman & 6th overall

Abstract: It is hard to explain the energy I garner from and the fulfilling feeling I am offered by the simplicity of the mountains, their perennial beauty and potent peace-giving. It is something that penetrates me and smooths my view on the world and myself. Copyright to Impact Photography, no infringement intended I love the Mountains and the dignity and solemnity I am infused with up there. Mountains pilfer my soul. I decided to run the Kodiak 160k/5k m ascent race on a late notice. Feeling strong after my fairly easy 3rd woman place and 6th overall ranking on the Fat Dog 120kms and 3k m ascent, I wanted to be in the mountains in a race context again. This time however I wanted my preferred distance i.e. 160kms and more ascent, which is what I long for.  I landed in Los Angeles airport quite tired from a demanding, yet fulfilling work week. (Ursvik Ultra 10) Vous dites? On est le 27 mars, pas le 27 janvier??! Pourtant …

« It’s the season Grand Opening » !! Pour la premiere course de la saison, je me suis inscrite sur un 75kms de nuit a Stockholm, l’Ursvik Ultra. C’est une distance raisonnable pour une premiere, surtout que c’est quand meme tot dans la saison et sans trop de denivele puisque sans entrainement a cette epoque. En realite, je n’aime pas quand c’est trop plat et trop court parce que ca va bien trop vite, mais il n’y avait pas beaucoup d’autre choix et de plus, pour la premiere fois, je n’ai pas choisi cette course par reelle envie mais plutot parce que cela m’a ete conseille et parce qu’effectivement cela peut-etre tres bien pour mon graal et aboutissement aoutien. A voir si cela fait une difference sur la ligne ! J-7, trouble starts !! Tout d’abord, a l’instar de beaucoup de pays europeens, la Suede connaît son plus rude hiver depuis 1987 et quoique le 20 mars, la neige est encore bel et bien presente, preservee par des temperatures encore negatives… Je passe ma semai...

(Ursvik Ultra 10) Pardon me? You mean we're not in December? Cause it sure looks like it!

It's the season Grand Opening!! For this first race of the season, I registered for a 75kms race by night in Stockholm, the Ursvik Ultra. I deemed it was a reasonable distance for a season (early) start and with almost no altitude change since I would not have had trained by then. I usually don't like when it is too short or too flat because it then goes way too fast for me but I did not really have many other choices. Moreover, for the first time, I have not entirely made the decision to do it on my own, I was advised to do it, given that it would be very good for a first and especially for my August Holy Grail, THE race of my season. Let us see if it changes anything on the finish line or not!! D-7, troubles starts. First, just like many other European countries, Sweden has have its coldest winter since 1987 and even though this was March 21st, snow is still very present, saveguarded by negative temperatures.
